New Collection Mizizi is coming October 1, 2026

Something new
is taking root.

On October 1, AfroWema introduces the Mizizi collection: three pieces built around a signature geometric print in olive green, black, and cream. Every piece is handcrafted with the same process behind every AfroWema release before it. Nothing about how we make things is changing. What is new is what we are making, and how you will get to experience it.

The Story Behind the Name

Mizizi.

Note before publishing: The copy below frames Mizizi as meaning "roots." Confirm this is the intended story before the post goes live. If the real meaning or inspiration is different, rewrite this section around that rather than keeping this placeholder.

Mizizi means roots. It is a fitting name for a collection that reaches back toward where AfroWema starts: the artisans in Kibera whose hands make every piece, the fabric traditions the collection draws from, the idea that growth should never mean losing sight of where something began.

of where something began."

The Collection

Three pieces.
One signature print.

The print connecting the skirt and the tunic is deliberate: a shared thread across womenswear and menswear, meant to be worn together or apart. A ruffled bow blouse in ivory cotton completes the collection on its own terms.

Womenswear

High-Waisted Maxi Skirt

Full length. Signature Mizizi print in olive green, black, and cream. The kind of movement that photographs can only hint at.

Menswear

Tunic Shirt

The signature print carried into menswear. Relaxed and easy to wear. Unmistakably part of the same story as the skirt.

Womenswear

The Mizizi Blouse

Ivory cotton. Clean structured silhouette with a signature bow detail and soft ruffled finish. Handcrafted in Kibera. As complete on its own as it is paired with the Mizizi skirt.

A New Way to Shop AfroWema

See yourself in it
before you buy.

Starting October 1, you will be able to upload a photo and see yourself wearing a piece before you decide to buy, right on the product page. No more guessing how something will look once it is actually on you. It is a styling preview, not a fit guarantee, but a meaningfully better starting point than a flat product photo.

Handcrafted, As Always

Made the same way.
It always has been.

None of what is new here changes how the pieces themselves are made. Every garment in the Mizizi collection is handcrafted by AfroWema's artisans in Kibera. The Kitenge fabric featured in the skirt and tunic is sourced here in Kenya, brought to life through the same sustainable, deliberate process behind every AfroWema collection.

New collection. Same hands. Same care.
