Where heritage meets sustainable luxury
“Wema” means goodness in Swahili. For me, Afrowema is a reimagining of that word. Goodness remixed, restyled, made bold. We take the forgotten and turn it into something new. Something that makes you feel good, look good, and do good. We solely utilise second-hand pieces of denim, pair it with bold kitenge prints sourced locally from small-scale traders to create our distinct denim line.
I believe in beauty that’s felt, not just seen. And in the hands behind it. That’s why we work with a small, dedicated team of artisans, many of them women, who co-create every piece. Their names matter. Their stories matter, and they are Afrowema.
Afrowema was born quietly. In 2021, I moved to Kenya, and met Tabitha, a talented tailor in Kibera who simply needed one thing: a chance. So, I passed on what I knew – a few ideas, a few metres of Kitenge, a pair of old jeans. What came out of that moment sparked a lifelong friendship and shared purpose.
